Each 6\u201d x 4-1\/2\u201d x 220\u201d book presented in a Chesterfield cigarette box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was born in England, and lived there until I was 10,\u201d says photographer Annu Palakunnathu Matthew. \u201cMy memories of that place are tied to my father. He died young, from smoking, one year after we moved from England to India. \u2018Fabricated Memories\u2019 commemorates my father\u2019s twentieth death anniversary.\u201d<br><br><em>Dad &amp; Ajit<\/em> juxtaposes a photo of a taxi and driver created by Matthew in England in 1997 with a family photo of her father and brother. \u201cI inserted the older photo to fabricate a memory that reflects my childhood.\u201d<br><br>Through \u2018Fabricated Memories,\u2019 Matthew considers the void her father\u2019s death left and questions whether he would have supported her choice to become a photographer.<br><br><em>Dad &amp; Ajit<\/em> is the cover image of Matthew\u2019s book, <em>The Answers Take Time<\/em>, which surveys her career and work, often focused on themes of identity and memory and incorporating mixed media and manipulated photos. \u201cMy work is photo-based,\u201d says Matthew, \u201cbut I\u2019m not a traditional photographer in terms of creating a picture and that being the end of the process.\u201d<br><br>As a teacher, Matthew \u201cfinds the ever-expanding digital toolbox exciting, offering new possibilities to get our ideas across. As technology develops, my teaching responds.\u201d She adds, \u201cI want my students to be fearless about technology so they can nimbly adapt to what comes next.
